Exercises in Meditation [i]

September 14, 2010

Traveling.

Traveling by train is a great exercise in meditation.

There is the continuous gentle rocking. There is the classic clack-clack from the front & rear wheels of the car passing over the spaces in the tracks in succession. There is scenery – always changing; present but not intrusive.

Most importantly, there is sitting. It may be the whole ride, or it may only be the 5 minutes between getting situated and getting your book out; but there is sitting.

Next time you get the chance, travel by train.

Waiting in security lines in the airport works too, but that’s for a different post.

  1. Nice. Love the trains.

  2. From one expat to another: agreed. And to add, the best sleep I’ve gotten has been on trains!
