june
August 1, 2011i haven’t written anything here for quite a while. it’s been a great summer so far, full of new people, great experience and not a lot of time.
i often try to write funny things that are deep observations about life, as opposed to just saying what’s been going on here in Nikopol, Bulgaria. well, now – as with the last post, is not one of those times. i’m just gonna rattle off a great list of things we’ve worked on in June.
i was in Finland with the mom at the end of May until June 1st, – great trip
we had the new group of Peace Corps Volunteers officially swear in and become Volunteers [as opposed to Trainees] in early June.
i got to see my host family at this time [we live with host family's for 3 months while we learn Bulgarian at the start of Peace Corps BG], and give the host dad a good U.S. gift and see the baby or course -
we had some great basketball tournaments. Nikopol did well, with some good progress from the guys, and great sustained victories by the girls.
wrote a project for a camp with coworkers,
had an awesome Eko Camp in Nikopol
there’s a lot more to Peace Corps then accomplishing cool things by the seat of your pants and taking too many pictures, there’s usually a lot of sweating in your apartment, re-using the same dish for a day or three if you don’t put any meat on it [c’mon people, spoko – relax, that’s definitely legit] and of course spending some good time in the gardens of coworkers.
anyways, June was quite a month. I think in keeping with the style of writing about everything a month late, I’m gonna hold off on July, which has enough stuff to warrant it’s own page, so until the end of August, here are a few teaser pics.
a huge thanks to the volunteers who helped with the Eko Camp in Nikopol, the volunteers in other sites with whom we play basketball, and of course Nikopol and the Obshtina Nikopol for being here to support the work of volunteers, and to work together on everything.

Looks like you do not lack for activity. Glad you are having such a productive time. Keep safe and may God blessings be with you and all the kids there.
As ever,
Roger
PS: our kids just came back from a great time at El Hogar.
